Tapis Cumi Cumi 12611
Abung People, Lampung, Sumatra, Indonesia
Cotton, silk, metal wrapped yarns, mirrors
19th Century
43 x 23 in / 109 x 58 cm

An exceptionally rare big, cumi cumi design.  Cumi cumi translates as "squid" but they may actually be disembodied ancestor spirit figures. This piece is in essentially perfect condition and comes from an old Dutch collection. The bold graphics of this type of tapis are highly sought after and very seldom come on the market.
