Ex Cathryn Cootner Collection

This remarkable basket features a tour de force of triple layer construction. It is also exceptionally rare. It demonstrates an extraordinary architectural continuity with a Bronze betel basket 500 BC – 300 AD found in Sulawesi and now in the Metropolitan Museum.

Cathryn Cootner was the  curator of textiles at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco from 1981, a position she held for 16 years.
